Intersectionality
This body of work was presented as an exhibition and titled, "Intersectionality." The work addressed the anthropocene as an intersection of synthetic man-made plastic objects and man-made forms with forms and structures that were not man-made. In a way, it is questioning the relationship between natural and artificial. The central assemblage along the wall is composed of a grouping of plastic trash that I collected from the beach. The shells, rocks, and driftwood were also from the beach. After the close of the exhibition, the shells, rocks, and driftwood were returned to the beach and the plastic trash was recycled.
Sound Relations
This body of work is designed to create a relational space. The audience is encouraged to interact with each other through the fragile sculptural forms. The Whispering Device can act as a conduit for secrets, random, or intentional conversations to be relayed between one participant and another. The Sound Device can be played with one or two participants and is an interaction between close listening and the actions one performs on the suspended strings. The Self Listening Device is a device that creates a situation where participants may have a conversation with themselves. The two percussion instruments create different qualities of sound. When the instruments are struck, the instrument that is closed in on itself produces a flat quiet sound and the opened out instrument has a loud symbol-like timbre.
